"Excellent, excellent article, Molly. Humorous, and yet, to the point. Excessive consumption of "soulness" doesn't get us a free pass to Nirvana, especially if we OD on enlightenment. With all that Life brings to us, moderation is key to reaping the benefits that follow."

Growing a Business: Are You Treating Your Business Like a Wildflower?
by Molly Gordon, MCC

There is something quite wonderful about how wildflowers spring up in what appear to be unlikely places.

But not all wildflowers thrive. Of the thousands of seeds that fall to the ground, only a tiny fraction take root.

To grow, a seed needs to fall in the right place at the right time. It needs the right kind soil with proper exposure and the clean water.

It's no tragedy that most seeds never take root.

But how about your business?

Like a wildflower, your business is a living thing. It needs to be nourished, supported, and protected in order to grow. And if your business doesn't receive what it needs, the results can be tragic indeed.

To grow a thriving business, you need to do the right thing in three areas: management, marketing, and delivering your work.

If you try to build a business only by doing good work, you can starve before folks know what you do or where to find you.

If you try to build a business by marketing but are a poor manager, your business may strangle on its success when clients find you can't keep things straight.

Most small business owners are committed to being good at their work and less interested in, if not downright allergic to, marketing and management. This is a recipe for disaster.

Fortunately there is a solution. Marketing and management are not rocket science, and even a little attention on your part can result in significant growth of your business, gains in your income and peace of mind.

Three Strategies for Growing a Business
Here are three strategies that will help you get better at doing the right thing for your business:

1. Start small. Choose one thing to improve or change and work on that until you are confident enough to move on.

2. Keep it simple. Choose improvements you can achieve from where you are now with a little bit of a stretch.

3. Be a beginner. You can't learn unless you have the humility and curiosity to be a beginner.

"I love that you incorporate spiritual principles into business and you are clear that being aligned with ourselves and working to attract the right clients is what is most helpful. All micro-business people with a spiritual orientation (which most artists actually do have), as well as organizations that train new and potential business owners would greatly benefit from reading your ezine!"

"I subscribed because of the content of your website - quite frankly, I just wanted MORE on a continuous basis and that is what you deliver - every time. I’ve been subscribed for more than five years, and the gifts just keep on coming! The ezine is well written, thoughtful, informative and not just another "copy and paste" newsletter.

It gives me a pause for thought - you have a way of saying something that will make me think differently - especially when it is an issue I am struggling with. (Your ezine always seems to show up just in time...we are in sync!) It is informative - I have probably followed just about every link you have suggested - a testament to your integrity. You know your stuff and you don't mind sharing.

This is an ezine for anyone who wants to further their business while maintaining their sanity and still follow a spiritual path, one of integrity. That would be just about anyone, I guess.

Molly, you share yourself, your knowledge and your path with so many - you are a gift. You make a difference."
